Planning, Scheduling & Risk

Project controls software plans the work and measures it as it happens. Critical-path schedulers manage tens of thousands of activities with resources and logic; cost and earned-value systems compare progress, commitments and forecasts with the budget; and risk tools run Monte Carlo analysis on schedules and estimates to show how likely a date or a number really is. Schedule exchange formats let contractors and owners share plans across different tools.

§ 02

How to choose

Follow the contract. Many owners require schedules in a specific format, and the scheduler you choose should exchange cleanly with the client's tool without breaking logic or calendars.

Integrate cost and schedule deliberately. Earned value only works when the schedule and the cost breakdown share a structure; decide early whether one platform or an integration does that for you.

Treat risk analysis as part of the plan, not an add-on. Schedule-quality checks and quantitative risk tools catch weak logic before it becomes a claim.
